Personal Property Registry
Who Searches and Why?
Buyers:
A person who intends to purchase personal property searches the registry to ensure that the property has not been previously pledged as security by the owner or previous owners and is currently free and clear of any encumbrances and liens prior to purchasing.
Lenders:
A person who is intending to lend money on the security of the personal property searches the registry to ensure that the property has not previously been pledged as collateral for a loan and that the debtor is in a position to grant a security interest in the collateral.
