Which filings are mandatory electronic filings?

Corporate Online includes the following electronic filings for companies over the Internet using a credit card:

  • B.C. and extraprovincial Annual Report
  • Incorporation Application
  • Continuation Application
  • Transition Application
  • Notice of Alteration
  • Notice of Change of Address
  • Notice of Change of Directors
  • Amalgamation Application
  • Post-Restoration Transition Application
  • B.C. company voluntary dissolution
  • Registration of a foreign entity (formed in Canada) as an extraprovincial company in B.C.

Can I still file paper forms?

Only if the service is not a mandatory electronic filing. Paper forms are not accepted for filings that are available electronically.

What about people who don't have Internet access, a credit card or a computer?

The Corporate Registry has selected Dye & Durham as Preferred Service Provider to assist clients who do not want to file electronically. Clients can send paper forms and a cheque to Dye & Durham who will file the information on their behalf. A service fee will be charged. Do I need to go through a lawyer or a registry agent to submit forms over the Internet?

No. You can go directly to the Corporate Registry's site on the Internet and submit forms yourself. You can also use the Registry's Preferred Service Provider . You also have the option to go to a lawyer, accountant or registry agent who will submit the forms for you over the Internet. If assistance is required in preparing forms, you should seek professional advice.

Have name approvals changed?

A name request can either be submitted through your BC OnLine account or over the Internet at Name Requests Online or a request on a paper form can be mailed to the Corporate Registry office. Forms can also be taken to service delivery locations throughout the province.

What is meant by "transition under the new act"?

All companies that were created before the Business Corporations Act came into force had two years to file a Transition Application on Corporate Online. This is a mandatory filing. Refer to B.C. Company Transition under the new Business Corporations Act for more information.
